Child's Play

So one of the really fun things about working at the pool (even though there are many) is seeing the games that the kids play day to day. They have a ton of staple games, and on top of that, they make up new games every summer (most of the rules don't actually make sense).

By the by another one of my favorite things about the pool is THUNDERRRR.

I hope it never is, James Franco, I hope it never is....

Back to ze games-- lets you know that some kids are actually creative...not for long I fear.

Here are so ejemples....

1. Escape from Alcatraz: Kids hang on the side of the pool while another kid stands on the edge with his/her back facing the pool. All the kids on the wall have to get to the other side without the one noticing. If he/she looks back with out someone going, he/she has to take a step forward, and if there is something going, they have to catch them. I like to tell the one kid when people are going.  Me: "Hey...they're going!! They're going!! go get them!" (sometimes they're going...and sometimes they're not)

2. Gutter Ball: Two teams on the opposite side of the pool throw splash balls at each other. If it  lands in the government ..... That was weird....I meant to write "gutter"...weird...I wonder if they said that word in the episode of downton abbey that I'm watching right now....probs not. ANYways.... the game is played for points, but it gets real out of hand when the ball starts flying around and hitting people sunbathing....it's like a bludger...

And this is a brief description of what I have to do when people start complaining about getting hit by flying BAWLS:

But then the kids are all like:

maybe I took this a lil too far? NAH.

3. Colors: A kid holds up another kid like a baby kinda and the kid being held has to guess the color that the other one is thinking. If they guess wrong, they get dunked, if they guess right, they get flipped....It seems worse to get flipped, but whatever, I played this when I was like 15....um...i mean 9....too. heh.

4. That Weird Baseball Game: Not exactly sure how this one works but there's three kids and ones a pitcher, the other is a batter (sans bat), and the other is the ref. The batter/ runner has to get to the pitcher before the pitcher...um...well never mind I still don't understand this game, it looks STOOOOPID.

5. Catching a ball while jumping off the diving board: self explanatory.

6. Acting out weird things while jumping off the diving board (seriously these kids are WEIIIRD).

7. General Swimming Races: Really the slow kids end up stopping halfway through because they don't want to really lose.

8. Oh and a lifeguard favorite: Let's See Who Can Stay Under Water For The Longest

9. Or: Let's Pretend We're Drowning! Haha So Funny!

10. Let's See Who Can Get Into The Lifeguard Office Without Getting In Trouble

11. The best: Let's Annoy the Lifeguards By Trying To Get Free Ice Cream Or By Trying To Get Money From Them.

12. Even better: Let's See How Many Times We Can Jump In The Pool After Adult Swim Is Called aka "Oops I Slipped"

Closing Remarks:

THISSS.

Canciones!
